Tesla Model S caught fire for no apparent reason

August 15th, 2016  |  Auto

Tesla is in the news again after one of its Model S sedans spontaneously caught fire in France.

While vehicle fires aren’t uncommon, absolutely anything that goes wrong with a Tesla is going to grab headlines and rattle investors. According to Autoblog, the vehicle caught fire during a test drive after displaying a “Problems with charging” message. The driver, being cautious pulled over and exited the vehicle along with his passengers. Soon after, it burst into flames.

With the cause of the fire still a mystery, one can only hope for the company’s sake that the incident is the fault of a single defective part and not the whole series. Tesla has had recalls and issues with its vehicles before, but continued issues do nothing to inspire confidence that they can deliver a quality product with the Model 3, which currently stands to be the company’s most popular vehicle and will require them to manufacture at a pace they never have.
