Nova Scotia forests closed as wildfire grows

August 10th, 2016  |  News

While no other fire may quite rival the behemoth blanket of flame and smoke that consumed Fort McMurray, there’s no such thing as an “easy” wildfire. In Nova Scotia, firefighters are working hard to control a 240 hectare fire they described as “challenging”.

In the meantime, the province has issued a ban on all travel and activity in its woods. That includes hiking, camping, fishing and the use of off-road vehicles, as well as forestry, mining and any commercial activity on Crown land. Thankfully, campgrounds won’t be shut down, but access to forest trails will be restricted.

Emergency crews are currently water bombing the fire, which is near Seven Mile Lake in Annapolis County. No evacuations have been called at this time.
