Gassy Sheep Force Emergency Landing of Malaysian Bound Flight

November 5th, 2015  |  Travel

A Singapore Airline flight had to make an emergency landing last month when crew noticed “an indication of smoke” coming from the cargo hold, according to the Aviation Herald.

The flight from Adelaide, Australia was originally bound for Kuala Lumpur when it was forced to divert to Denpasar, Bali after airline staff were alerted.

After the plane landed, officials investigating the incident found no trace or smoke or fire anywhere on the craft.

The real problem? Exhaust and gas emissions from the 2,186 sheep and their manure being transported aboard the plane caused the smoke indicator to trip.

The gassy animals were reported to be safe and sound but the flight was delayed 2.5 hours while the problem was being addressed by airport workers.

The plane made the final leg of it's journey and landed in Kuala Lumpur 2.5 hours after their Bali takeoff.
