Dara Khosrowshahi named as Uber’s new CEO

August 27th, 2017  |  Canadian Business

Dara Khosrowshahi, former CEO of Expedia, has been named as Uber’s new Chief Executive Officer. Khosrowshahi is taking over for former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, who stepped down back in June.

Since Kalanick’s absence, Uber has been run by 14 executives, and has been working to fix the negative persona that the company has been branded with. Allegations of sexual harassment, deceit, and corporate espionage are just a few of the things Kalanick left behind in is wake, which Khosrowshahi will now have to deal with as he steps up to the helm. Uber has also being seeing major profit losses over the last number of quarters.

Khosrowshahi has been the CEO of Expedia since August 2005, when it was spun off from IAC/InterActiveCorp twelve years ago. As an engineer who studied at Brown, Khosrowshahi helped IAC expand their travel bands, which were eventually combined into forming Expedia. In addition to his work with Expedia, he also serves on the boards of Fanatics Inc and The New York Times Co.

Khosrowshahi beat out both chief executive of HP Enterprise, Meg Whiteman, and former General Electric CEO, Jeff Immelt for the role.
