ATV Moose Chasers Now Under Investigation

November 21st, 2015  |  News

Conservation officers are now looking into a video involving two men on ATVs who are filmed following a female moose running down a road.

The video was uploaded to Wolftracker TV’s Youtube Channel, it was originally posted to another Youtube account but has since been deleted.

It appears the original video was originally posted back in October 2014 and shows two men trailing the moose for ten minutes.

Dave Webster, a conservation officer for West Kootenay, indicated that they are currently investigating the issue.

“Basically that animal is pushed and panicked so much they become stressed,” said Webster, adding this is particularly harmful for female moose with babies on the way.

“If they become stressed and tired they can’t adequately defend themselves in the wild,” he said.

Park officials state that there is provincial legislation in place that protects wildlife from being harassed in this way. They urge all recreation ATV drivers to take care when riding the trails and to avoid interacting with wildlife when they are spotted.
