Your guide to off-peak travel

November 22nd, 2016  |  Travel

Are you planning to travel? Are you worried about costs? Are you stressing out about the expensive prices during busy times?

The good news is that you can travel off-season and have just as much fun. You don’t always have to go when everyone else is. You can do your own thing when it comes to travel. This is your guide to off-peak travel.

Find out when it’s not peak season where you want to go

This is the most important step. You want to find out when it’s affordable to actually visit your dream destination. I would do a few quick Google searches to see when it’s really busy so that you can avoid those times. You already know that every tropical destination will have their prices jacked during Spring Break. You also know that summer will likely be a busy time for most places, since families will be traveling.

Find places with an amazing off-season

There are plenty of countries on this planet that actually have near-perfect weather all year round. I went to Colombia during an off-season and you honestly couldn’t tell. It was freezing cold back home in Toronto. I simply wanted to escape the harsh winter. I found myself hanging out in the sun every day.

Look for places that have a great off-season all year long. I found that most of Europe was pretty fun when I went in September because the lines everywhere were shorter.

Take advantage of deals for places that you normally couldn’t afford

The main benefit of traveling off-season is that you can visit prices that would normally be out of your budget. I remember going to Jamaica in 2008, to a five-star resort. The normal prices were through the roof. However, the resort had just opened and it was the off-season, so I was able to land a pretty sweet deal. It was a unique experience that I’ll never forget because it was total luxury.

Consider going alone

I wanted to do a big trip to Europe with my friends in 2011 when I graduated from college. The problem was that most couldn’t afford it and the others couldn’t get the time off. I found a great deal for September and went solo. I didn’t want to wait and I also knew that I would never find a flight that cheap during the peak times. This trip could be an excellent opportunity for you to try out your first solo adventure.

Those are some quick tips to help you travel in the off-season. The only thing left is to start packing because you don’t want to forget anything.
