What to Look For In a Used Car

When it comes to buying a car, there are two general options of people to consider:

 


A new car

   A used car

 While there are merits to both options, many people are opting to purchase a used car. With economic uncertainty, used cars have become a more affordable option for consumers in Ontario.

 What are the benefits of purchasing a used car?

  • There are a number of obvious benefits to purchasing a used car:
  •  They cost less
  • Consumers tend to have more choice in terms of makes and models
  • Insurance rates tend to be lower
  • The value of the car is less impacted by depreciation when you drive it off the lot

 What to look for in a used car?

  • Here are some of the common things that consumers need to look for whenshopping for a used car:
  • Insurance rates: Make sure you check out the insurance rate of the car you are looking at to make sure it fits your budget.
  • Warranty: Is the car still under warranty from the manufacturer?
  • History: How many kilometers are on the car? Has it been in any accidents? Has it had any mechanical issues?
  • Further investment: Are you going to have to put more money into the car in the near future or down the road?
  • Dependability of the model: Does the model of the car have a good reputation for being durable and long lasting?
  • Damage: What is the current condition of the car? Is there any major damage that requires attention?
  • Wear and tear: Does the vehicle have normal wear and tear? Keep in mind that buying a used car is difference in the sense that you should expect some minor dings and dents as well as wear.
  • What’s under the hood: Is the engine in good working order? Has much work been done?
  • Interior: How does the interior look? Is there any visible damage? Does the stereo system work properly? What does the inside of the trunk look like?

 If you are not sure of what to look for when buying a used car in Ontario, make sure you go with someone that does. And, don’t forget to have the car looked at by a mechanic to ensure the car is in the condition it is advertised. Taking these steps will ensure you find a used car that is reliable and worth the money you pay for it.
