Spring Cleaning Tips to get the Job Done Right

March 23rd, 2012  |  Insurance

Whether you live in downtown Toronto or in a small town like North Bay, the month of March signifies a change in season and the prospect of good weather. As the snow melts and is replaced with sunshine and flowers it is time to get your home ready for the busy summer months with a little spring cleaning.

While most people dread doing it, spring cleaning is a great way to get rid of the clutter in your home, put away seasonal items, and freshen up your living space.

Here are some tips that will help you get through spring cleaning with less stress and aggravation:

  • Schedule it: Set aside a day or a weekend and plan to get everything done at once. Trying to do it a little bit at a time will only prolong the process.

  • Have a plan: You need to know what you want to accomplish before you get started. What is the main goal? What specific tasks to you want to accomplish?

  • Have an incentive: Giving yourself a small reward once you finish your spring cleaning is a great way to create some much needed motivation.

  • Room by room: Approach spring cleaning room by room. Place 100% of your time and effort on one room at a time and do not move onto the next until the previous room is complete.

  • Do the outside to: Don’t forget about cleaning out the shed and the garage as part of the cleaning and de cluttering process.

  • Get everyone involved: Trying to do it yourself is a daunting task. Get the whole family involved. You will be able to get it done much quicker with a team.

  • Clean as you go: Don’t forget to do regular cleaning such as sweeping and vacuuming as you go. Kill two birds with one stone.

  • Be generous: If you are not the yard sale type, donate any god quality items that you no longer want rather than throwing them out.

The truth is that if you do it right the first time, you will not have to do spring cleaning every year. One weekend of thorough cleaning and de cluttering will get your home in great shape. And, don’t forget to reward yourself for a job well done!
