How to keep windshield from fogging | HUB Insurance Hunter Blog

September 26th, 2011  |  Insurance

Visibility while driving is very important during the winter. There are a number of things that can impede a driver’s visibility from snow, ice, rain, and poorly working wiper blades. Another common issue that impacts a driver’s visibility is when the dashboard fogs up in the cold weather.

During damp and wet days in the winter, it is not uncommon for your windshield and dashboard to fog up. If you want to stop this from occurring, here are some tips on how to keep windshield from fogging:

  • Keep your windows clean. Dirty windows make it easier for moisture to build up.
  • Turn your defroster on as soon as you get into the car and allow your car to warm up before you begin to drive – Make sure that air vents are pointed toward the window and don’t forget to hit the rear defroster button!
  • Sometimes it will help if you roll down the window and allow some outside air to get in and circulate.
  • If you are in a hurry, wipe down the window with a cloth, but only do this as a last resort. Keep in mind that your windows could fog up again when you wipe them down.
