Bathroom Hacks: From Clever Storage to GENIUS Redesigns

March 2nd, 2015  |  Home Insurance

A bathroom renovation is a great way to add value to your home, as so many buyers are looking at kitchens and bathrooms when making a purchasing decision.

That being said, bathroom renovations can also prove very costly, and may be something that you simply haven’t the time or budget for right now.

If you are looking to update your bathroom without the price tag of a renovation, here are some tips and tricks you can use:

  1.  Add a chalkboard

This is a fun way to send a message to your spouse or your kids, and also a practical way to remember things, or create a shopping list. You can buy spray paint that will turn any surface into a chalkboard at most craft stores, and paint a surface that is not visible, such as the inside of your medicine cabinet door.

  2.  Repurpose household items for storage

There are so many items you have lying around your house that can make practical and affordable bathroom storage spaces. For example, spice racks can be hung on the wall to hold hair products or toiletries. A CD rack turned on its side can also be affixed to your wall to hold bathroom items. An old wine rack can double up as a towel holder.

  3.  Repurpose household items for… everything else!

Maybe you aren’t in need of storage per se but want to add some fun touches to your bathroom to make it look more updated. You can still make use of items you already have in your house, such as using two small china plates and a candleholder to create a makeshift tray that you can keep jewelry on. And an old liquor bottle with an added nozzle can become a fun liquid soap dispenser. Old china plates can also be used to keep bar soap, as can small cake or pastry trays.

  4.  Give everything a home

One of the best ways to spruce up your bathroom is by making sure it looks less cluttered. Simple hacks can help you to give everything a home. For example, a simple strip of magnetic tape is a great place to put bobby pins or tweezers. Likewise, a simple hook can be used to store your jewelry, and if you have the space, attaching it to the inside of a cupboard door is a great way to keep it out of sight.

While renovating your entire bathroom may not be a possibility, a few inexpensive hacks can make all the difference in the world in turning your ho-hum bathroom into a relaxing oasis.
