6 Tips for Planning a Classy & Frugal Holiday Party

December 2nd, 2014  |  Insurance

Many people this time of the year are planning their holiday dinners and parties. Have you planned your holiday party yet? Still working out the details?

Even if you are on a tight budget, it doesn’t mean you still can’t have a classy holiday party. You just need to be more resourceful. Hosting a successful holiday party is not about how much money you spend on it. Great parties have to do with the time and thought put into the party and your ability to entertain your guests.

Here are some great tips to help you out:

  1. Take advantage of sales: Scour the weekly flyers, and pay attention to online deals. Also be sure to take advantage of sales on groceries and party supplies. Why pay full price when you don’t need to?
  2. It’s all in the presentation: You don’t need to serve expensive food to impress your guests. Most often, it’s the presentation that has the biggest impact. Look for unique ways to prepare and serve the food at your party and you will have your guests eating out of your hands.
  3. Be creative with decorations: There is no shortage of places to get decorations and you don’t need to go out and spend money on expensive décor for your party. With a little creativity you can make your home magnificent! Check out your local thrift shop, look online, and use what you already have at home. It is amazing the difference a few well placed candles can make on the ambience of your party.
  4. Simplify meals: The days of the 5 course meals is a thing of the past. People want to be social at parties and this is why potlucks, buffets, and appetizers have become so popular. They are easier to organize and it allows your guests to mingle as they see fit.
  5. Have a signature drink: Having a signature drink is a great way to create a unique and memorable party. Your options are endless and it can be as simple or complex as you wish.
  6. Use your points: Remember all those points you have been compiling all year on your credit cards and reward cards? Now is the time to cash them in and use them towards your party.
