6 Awesome New Advances in Auto Technology

November 6th, 2014  |  Auto Insurance

With every passing year and every auto show season comes a new set of new auto technologies that are introduced to the public. While some are only in their infancy, others are ready for market. However, many of these new featured take a number of years before they become standard options in cars.

Here are 6 of the most important advances in auto technology in recent times:

  1. Automatic high beam control: Hate having to always switch on and off your high beams when driving on the highway? Now you can allow your car to handle this using automatic high beam control.
  2. Rear mounted radar: Backing out of a parking spot or out of the driveway is a vulnerable position for drivers. While rear view cameras have been around for some time now, rear mounted radar takes things to the next level by having the ability to see approaching traffic and alert drivers.
  3. Parental control: Worried that your teen driver might do something unsafe when behind the wheel. This feature allows parents to set speed limits, volume, as well as alerts if seatbelts are not used while driving.
  4. GPS vehicle tracking: Have a really expensive car that you are worried will be targeted by thieves? Have teens you want to keep tabs on? Just want that extra sense of security just in case? This feature allows you to track the location of your vehicle at all times.
  5. In car Wi-Fi: AutoNet Mobile now allows you to use your vehicle as a mobile hotspot, using a portable router that is mounted in the trunk of your car. But, just like home internet, it comes with a monthly fee. While this may a useful new feature, especially for business people that are always on the go, its impact on distracted driving does have to be called into question.
  6. Distracted driving apps: It’s no secret that distracted driving is one of the biggest threats on our roads. It is now the number one killer on our roads. The good news is that there are a number of distracted driving apps that drivers can install on their smartphones to help them minimize distracted when behind the wheel.

Do you use any of these auto technologies? Can you think of other auto technologies that you would like to see in the future?
