3 Winter Travel Tips for Canadian Snowbirds | HUB Insurance Hunter Blog

September 26th, 2011  |  Insurance

Many Canadians, especially snowbirds, travel south during the winter to escape the cold weather and snow, and enjoy the sunshine. Some decide to drive, while others fly down south. Choosing how to travel is just part of becoming a Canadian snowbird. There are a number of winter travel tips to keep in mind before you leave for your trip.

The first thing that you need to do is ensure that everything is taken care of at home. Make sure your home is safe and secure and you have someone to handle things while you are away. Check everything twice before you leave. Make sure all doors and windows are locked.

Once your home is in order, double check your suitcase to make sure you have everything that you will need for your trip, especially medication, and all of your travel documents. Try not to leave packing until the last minute or your risk forgetting things. And, don’t forget to get your travel insurance in order to ensure you are protected while travelling.

A final thing to do before you leave is to check the weather. If the forecast is good then you probably have little to worry about. However, if the weather is not great, you could be facing a travel delay. If this is the case, make sure to check the road conditions or check with your airline before you leave the house, if you are flying.
